URBAN FARMING
Do you have a small plot of land but want to learn to grow food for your family?
Are you looking at the prices in the stores wondering if there is a better way to provide food for your family?
Are you struggling to find some of your favorite fruits and veggies at the store and wondering if you can grow them?
These are some of the questions that we will explore and answer. This last year, 2022, my family and I have turned our beautiful home in the suburbs, into a tiny farm. We have planted 100s of plants this year.
In our traditional family’s fashion we did in less than one year, what most people would properly take at least two to five years to do.
However because we did so much in such a short time, I am able to walk you through what we did and some of the why behind it as well. Sharing much of what we planted and where we got them. Along with some of the “would you do it again?” and “what would you do differently next time?”
I’m always looking at what we could have done better. I will also be sharing some tips and tricks for you that I wish we would have known.
Also, did I mention that we have only 1/5 of an acer? Well it is true and when I share what all we have done you might just be amazed. Leading to the obvious question “How did you plant all that on such a small plot of land?” Well you might find it hard to believe, but we all can do much with just a little.
I believe that God is able to and has blessed our small bit of land. Someday, I would love to have acres upon acers to grow more, to have green houses, livestock, and farm animals. However I am content with where I am right now. Where I can learn, grow, and hone my skills as a Proverbs 31 woman in the making.
So join me on this fascinating and exciting journey as I share our gardens, fruit orchards, herb gardens, and zone pushing citrus patch. Just to name a few!
I cannot talk about our gardens without also mentioning the One who first created and designed the first garden.
Genesis 1:1-2, 11-13, 29 2:15
1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. (Job 38:4-7; Ps. 33:6; 136:5; Isa. 42:5; 45:18; John 1:1-3; Acts 14:15; 17:24; Col. 1:16, 17; Heb. 1:10; 11:3; Rev. 4:11)
2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters… (Jer. 4:23)
11 And God said, (Ps. 104:14) “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants (1:11 Or small plants; also verses 12, 29) yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth.” And it was so.
12 The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
13 And there was evening and there was morning, the third day…
29 And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. (ch. 9:3; Ps. 104:14-15; 145:15-16) You shall have them for food…
